They say we’ll get a hurricane,
that they’re calling hurricane Lee.
Probably later this week,
and it’s a category 9 at least.

Some are saying prayers, but I say:
Why’s God sending it here?
Someone must be sinning a LOT.
Hey, don’t look at me - I’m not.

You’d think that would affect our classes,
that maybe we’d get hazzard passes,
for assignments that are due,
but nope, it isn’t true.

“I don’t want to hear excuses,”
my chem professor said,
“the only acceptable excuse is,
that you’re dead.”

People can often be illogical
Self Centered
Unreasonable
And occasionally intolerable
It didn’t faze you in any deadly way

Maybe it took a sharp turn
from horse to foul play
But like my ******* dad used to say
"you still breathin?
well **** **** it up, you'll be okay."

If your heart’s in the right place
You’re “two-faced” or just “too nice”
“A push-over”
Keep that good **** running like an NBA replay

If you’re authentic
You’ll be “blunt”
“Too direct” “Rude”
Those are just ignorant cliches
Stay voracious
Do not fade away

If you’re blossoming
Stay Blooming
When you’re noteworthy
Don’t expect only good notes

Keep grooving to your heart’s beat though
Because that's morse code live from your soul
You gotta stay rare
Before common conformity becomes
Communistic crowd control

We crave that unparalleled extraordinary
In any sort of way

We need sui generis runaways that set the leeway
we need the leap days
and occasionally risque soirées
and baseball’s ritualistic ***** plays
So society won’t run too astray

Just like the Nutcracker needs ballet
Like grey Monday needs
Friday night’s jet-black lingerie
like Nirvana needs Kurt Cobain
We need those bows after the rain

Jealousy will be profound
When you find a way to smile
don’t trip though because on Cloud 9 it’s too intoxicating
To hear any words on the ground

When you synthesize something
That feeds your soul
That’s enchanting to you
Stay with that sensational complacency
You earned it

Besides
It wasn't about them anyway

why are you so enchanted by the light?
why do you keep on sticking to bright streetlamps
when strolling
through cold, quiet streets
bare of any living being?

(with their fingers crossed behind their backs
and knives hidden in their smiles
)
the creatures mischievously sneaking around in the dark
are given the benefit
of spotting you right away

they easily observe you
(and see through your hesitant footsteps and shivering arms)
from a safe distance
and wait
for the chance to pounce

what is it
that makes you so
terrified
of the darkness?

is it because of the stories your mother told you
when you were a wee, little thing?
when you could barely understand the words coming out of her mouth?
when all you could believe in were your mother's words?

"Remember this: always walk under the streetlights, so the monsters don't chase you. They're terribly frightened by the light."

child,
do not be afraid
of slipping in the darkness.
do not be afraid
of what kind of unknown being lurks inside.
do not be afraid
of breathing the same air as your predators.

why not blend with them
as they search through their surroundings
all terribly confused
as to where their prey was
as you observe
(and see through their hesitant eyes and shivering backs)
from the shadows
and wait
for the chance to pounce?

/ after all,
creatures of the dark
rarely expect the attack
coming from their own side,
don't they?

We are nudging out nature, in our selfish interest
Almost trying to outdo nature and create our space
A space devoid of any beauty, mechanical churning
Deafening noise, drowning us in the decibels
Haze from the industries, making our vision blurry
Oblivious to the perils, of where we are heading
Are we leaving or building a safe abode for our progeny?
We can live in denial and continue to march ahead
Trampling many natural dreams in the name of civilization
Or measure success in different parameters
As success can’t be at the cost of defeating the purpose of life
