Poetry has to rhyme
Poetry has to rhyme
No it doesn’t
That lie is just a crime
It’s meant to fixate
To inflate
The curious mind
The literate kind
Words in a verse
The gold in the purse
Of a creative person

Poetry has to rhyme
No it doesn’t
Your wrong this time
Its meant to uplift
To drift
Into a person thoughts
A charm of sorts
Letters in a line
All beautiful and fine
To read everyday

Juliet said to Romeo
‘I don’t like your hair!’
And Romeo said to Juliet
‘Well I don’t really care!’
Then Juliet said to Romeo
‘Don’t talk to me like that!’
And Romeo said to Juliet
‘Sorry baby J, I’ll buy myself a hat!’
Juliet smiled all sweetly
‘That would be a start’
Romeo replied to Juliet
‘You have evil in your heart!’
Juliet gave him a scowl
‘You know that isn’t true!’
Romeo looked all sheepish
‘I know thats not true too’
Juliet kissed his cheek
‘Your a dream, that’s what you are’
Romeo went red faced
‘I’m embarrassed, my little star’
Juliet gave him a hug
‘You’ll definitely do for me’
Romeo squeezed her all lovingly
‘Make us a cup of tea’
A pigeon sings in Trafalgar Square
It has graceful charm
And bears no harm
As it sings in Trafalgar Square

A pigeon sings in Trafalgar Square
The joy it brings
When it lifts its wings
As it sings in Trafalgar Square

A pigeon sings in Trafalgar Square
Whilst watching migration
From across the nation
As it sings in Trafalgar Square

A pigeon sings in Trafalgar Square
And the world flows by
Like a lullaby
As it sings in Trafalgar Square

A pigeon sings in Trafalgar Square
Not a single care
For people who stare
As it sings in Trafalgar Square

A pigeon sings in Trafalgar Square
Then it flys up high
Without a goodbye
As it sings in Trafalgar Square

Hotels
Rooms and rooms open and closed
For the regressed and depressed souls
Writers and blighters
All scotch and lighters
That search in earnest for truth

Doors and doors ajar and afar
To be entered and left by creatures
Walkers and stalkers
All botched and talkers
Misleading their way through life

Corridors and corridors long and narrow
Paced and rested by jokers
All jubilant and chokers
Laughing into space for eternity

Floors and floors large and small
Stood and wandered by lovers
All romantics and dull
Longing for love in an instant

Hotels and hotels sprawling and nestled
Visited and departed by society
All happy and sad
Wanting to sleep and wanting to mix

My Street
I slowly open the window
And the air breezes in
A world I love to know
Now starts to begin

On the street I see the people
What stories they can tell
In the distance rises the steeple
Where the choir sings so well

To the left I see the paper shop
Mr Johnson has kept it ticking over
He sells anything from eggs to a mop
Just him and his dog named Rover

And to the right is the book store
Where literature springs to view
The day you open the door
Is the day you learn something new

Finally across the street from me
Is the pub named 'The Old Bell'
You should see the sights that I see
And the stories I too could tell

The burning Carousel
A fire raged in the darkness that resembled a postcard sent from hell
It was destroying the once beautiful vision that was the old town Carousel
Large striking white horses that in the past stood like angels in the night
Were all now fiercely burning as they cast an eerie sight
The smell of the charred wood and the plume of ash in the air
Left a tearjerking memory to the workers on the fair
A disturbing insight into mindlessness certain people possess
The flames rose in the air caused by those who couldn’t care less
Blistering heat was getting stronger with every hour that past
The sounds of loud sirens finally filled the air at last
Gone was the wonderful paintwork resembling times gone by
Now there were black patches that made the ancients cry
What now for the old Carousel?
With so many stories yet to tell

A storm brewing
There's a storm brewing I can feel it
We feel it in our bones
There's a storm brewing I can sense it
We hear it when the cloud moans
The storm is getting closer
We can see the sky getting dark
The storm is drawing on us
We can see it making its mark
The storm is affecting our people
We can see a behavioural change
The storm is making us angry
We can see it making us strange
The storm has caused a disturbance
We can see things going wrong
The storm has left its poison
We are living its ugly song

The Landslide
Widening banks laden with grass
And the river runs calmly by
The birds of nature talk the talk
Whilst the mice scurry along
Trees that spiral into the sky
As the hills are steeply sloping
The once flat land that broke away
Now stumbles into the ground
And the river mouth consumes it prey
Whilst water mingles with earth
The sun bears naked its searing heat
Onto the weeds that tangle below
Making then wild and desperately restless
And clumsy under trampling feet
It's just another page of history
Falling beautifully by the landslide

Made of what
I just don’t know

Vinyl oh vinyl
The joyous wonderful sound
Of crackling and scratching
As the needle drops down
And you slowly spin around

Looking for words
Etched into the black
Really was a scream

A nostalgic thing of the past
I need to hear you
Play a song
For minutes first till last

The British way
I love the British weather especially the sun
But I really can't stand the rain
And I love the smell of fish and chips
It just meddles with my brain

I love the coasts that we possess
Even the Blackpool shore
And to see the way my children play
Makes me love them even more

I love the nitty gritty of politics
Although I'm not to keen on the tories
Their quite happy to cut this and that
Amongst their sordid stories

I love our sporting culture
But I can take or leave the glamorous WAGS
All bling and silly makeup
And the nice Gucci bags

I love our capital London
Especially Leicester Square
Don't understand our Queen though
With her funny little stare

And finally I love the nature
From the Hebrides to John O groats
Where the people are very rural
As they tend to their pigs and goats

Broken Pier
Once it was strong and full of life
Now it's a mismash of signs and rails
Place of the working man and his wife
Abandoned wood and left over tales
Now its dead with a forgotten past
Deserted on the beach as the birds fly
They soar upwards wild and fast
Up and up into the sun drenched sky
The wood is rotten and the metal rust
Waves swim through legs that are dead
A decaying image of grime and dust
As it eerily hangs out over the sea bed
I see the people take their snaps
Wondering how it might have been
For a minute of two longer perhaps
When it was alive, when it was clean
The beach is deserted apart from a few
Wandering in a sweet summers sun
Shame they can't enjoy it too
The pier that once breathed out fun
Where's the money, where's the care
Why has it been left to go
People loved to walk along there
To see the cabaret or the puppet show

English Rose
We remain seated on the blanket
Unaffectionate and empty of love
I offer a cup of Darjeeling
A shake of raven hair is the reply
Tears slowly flow down your porcelain skin
A worm of emotion curls inside me
Friends and foes and lovers and haters
We’ve played them all to the stalls
Now I wish we’d talked together
I long to hear us laugh forever
No more than ships passing have we become
Time hasn’t been a friend to us
It’s left it’s nasty and brutal scars
Grand chasms that our bridges can’t span
Gone is our structure
Dead and buried under ash and smoke
I eat my cake alone as you turn away
How I miss you my perfect English Rose

It jumped on my table
I waved it away
It's a bit unstable
I guess you could say
It chewed my fence
I shouted it to stop
It's brains a bit dense
The penny needs to drop
It snook into my house
I showed it the door
I'd rather it be a mouse
They don't leave mess on my floor
It seems to have disappeared
I looked around the block
Run away I feared
My sorrows a shock
It still hasn't returned
I hope it's safe and well
Well heres something I've learned
I even miss it's smell

Litter on my floor
Litter walks idly on my floors
Food trays leave odours in the hall
I regularly ignore the door bell
When I hear my neighbour call
He rings a thousand times
But I don't care for his talk
'Hello Eddie' sounds his voice
Before I hear his feet start to walk
What did you think would happen
You left me when times were good
I believed we could be together
Naivety ran warm through my blood
My mother was right ofcourse
She said you were a waste of space
When you picked up those heavy cases
I just fell headfirst onto my face
Where do I go from here
Nobody can help ease the pain
Let's face it i'm washed up baggage
And I'm floating along in the rain

The Legend
I was a fine man in my prime
They constructed walls around me
Just look in all the history books
Cause I'm there for all to see
Many people bring pretty gifts
And leave them one by one
From flowers to bottles of wine
Oh I'm having so much fun
I listen to the conversations
To what the people say
They praise my every movement
When I lived for everyday
Sweet little poems are written
And the news still speaks my name
But I have a secret to reveal
Inside we're all the same
Everybody has talents
We all have something to give
They call me a Legend
Everyone is a legend when they live
Thank you for the kindness
The love still touches me dear
Now though in heavens realm
I see love in everyone here

Immigrants
Poor innocent people forced to elope
From their dwellings to which they were fond
Not knowing for sure what the crystal ball is foretelling
Or what awaits them from across the pond

A minority language completely misunderstood
Ignorance showers their very being
They try so hard to climb the ladders
But are afraid of the brutality they'll be seeing

A land of wonder but also of hate
Stretches out before their eyes
Nows the time to lay down some roots
Learn quickly how the land lies

Scattered dreams destroyed for some
But new opportunities made for others
Children need to feel the west
As do their fathers and their mothers

Echoes repeat my name
In this chasm of the light
The world doesn't seem the same
Beautiful solid structures
Watch me from up high
I swear I see them smiling
I swear I see them cry
Why do they want me close
Am I a victim in their lair
Do they intend to tangle me up
When they cajole with that icy stare
This is how I imagine heaven
So quiet and deathly still
Yet the real sense of protection
Keeps me here at will
I know I have to leave soon
The curator will give me a shove
Just one more second to rejoice

Tower Block
Made of glass wood and cement
Thirteen monsters were council sent
Families lived in high rise flats
And children roamed with the dogs and cats
A little park near a collection of shops
The bus drove round a circle of stops
***** old lifts with gum on the floors
Held strange odours and graffiti on the doors
Darkened stair wells where creatures hid
Causing havoc like delinquents did
Behind the flats the landslide sprawled
Bees buzzed and insects crawled
The river flowed under a bridge which spanned
Connecting the residents to grassy land
Happy people but rough round the edges
As they peered from windows and leant over ledges
Bikes on balconies and clothes hanging down
The disillusioned youth wearing a frown
Drunken rows and secret affairs
All newcomers were greeted with stares
Tiny halls and narrow little rooms
The strange feeling of living in tombs
Sad faces watched the explosion together
The homes they once shared now gone forever

Limbs left to rot
Heads left to roll
Friends left to die
In the long meandering grass
Hail to the triumphant heroes
Tears for the many left behind
Drink and dance in total debauchery

Murder at the Manor
It was a beautiful old house
Adorned with flowers and the odd flying bee
Leaves fell as I drove up the driveway
It was as picturesque as my eyes could see
Grass rolled down the banks
A gust of wind made the trees sway
The gardener gave me a curious smile
And his teeth showed neglecting decay
If he knew my full occupation
I bet he wouldn't be so polite
As I was a Scotland Yard detective
Investigating a ****** that happened in the night
The lady of the house opened the door
And her look was a sorrowful one
'Would you like some tea?', she asked
But I said just no as I wanted to crack on
I asked a series of questions
Then spoke with all the staff
They were still shocked about the ******
About the deadman found in the bath
After a tense and lengthy investigation
It seemed that it was jealous revenge
The culprit was a young servant
After discovering an affair he had to avenge
I won't forget the manor
And the beautiful falling leaves
Just a pity it wasn't a nice visit
That left misery as a family grieves
Over the causeway
You clutched my hand
Then came your story
About a giant that swam in the moonlight
Hands like tree stumps
And arms as long as streetlights
Split through the waves
Whilst his head bobbed like the rock of Gibraltar
Then he'd sit on the stones
Mind deep in thought
Thinking of a forgotten fabled family
Where did he come from
Cause he wasn't from the sea
Although his lungs were big
He hadn't dropped from the sky
Wings didn't protrude from his back
So where did he come from then?
I asked her spellbound
But alas she didn't know
A mystery and a legend and forever he will remain
The giant that swam in the moonlight

The Capsule
I sneak into the Capsule
Carefully and without sound
And enter the glowing niche
When nobody is around
I'm transported back in time
Away from 2190 where I dwell
And I see what life was like
On my planet before it fell
I see Dinosaurs and cavemen
Then Vikings and the plague
Caesar and the moon landings
Which look blurred and very vague
A Great Wall being built
While another one comes down
A fair maiden holding a torch
Above her elegant crown
Two wars that spanned the world
And two towers that fell so quickly
The reason for this happening
Leaves me cold and feeling sickly
And as the images start to flicker
I manage to see two more things
A princess who died so tragically
Then a bluebird as she's sings
I leave the capsule drained
Due to the overload on my brain
Tired but thankful for tomorrow
When I will view my past again

Enemy Friend
Frankfurt, in a bunker, in 1942
I discovered the injured man
Tended his wounds best I could
Ofcourse that shouldn't have been the plan
He was German, a young solider
But I just didn't follow orders at that time
A picture of a child and a pretty girl
Being German was his crime
I watched him go and breathed a sigh
What had I just done
We were taught to **** another nation
But my conscience had just begun
He looked back and nodded his head
Was it happiness or relief that weighed on his mind
Did he wonder why I'd helped him
Or was I just thinking blind
A conference in Berlin 1992
I started with my talk
On war crimes and dangerous times
And the paths enemies walk
As I stood to take my leave
I felt eyes watch my move
A large hand on my shoulder
I thought oh no someone doesn't approve
There he was an ageing man
But I couldn't forget his face
He smiled and we stood in total awe
And then we hugged with a respectful embrace
I often wondered why you did it
Said his old croaky voice
You should have killed me but let me live
I thank you for my families rejoice

One day
Morning has reared it head
All birds and hot sweaty sun
I have left the land of the dead
For a moment

Dressed and shaven
Fulfilled with life
Scouring the subtle haven
Of my flat

Papers and toast with butter
Simplicity in its purest form
Words come along in a mutter
As I open my door

Cars and bikes fly past
Noises I am now accustomed to
Evanescent and buoyant to the last
The gate I open slowly

Trees awkwardly blow in the wind
Cracking and swaying in motion
Nature makes me regress and rescind
As I shamble along the street

Children deliriously play in bliss
Unaware that I have emerged
The world I could eagerly kiss
In a heartbeat

Factory gates appear like giants
Corroded and crumbling as one
This is the century for legends and defiants
One day I will be among them too

The Church
Sat on the pew as a boy
My hand brushed the formica underneath
Holding the hymn book like it was a toy
I bit it with my small stubbly teeth
Mother tapped me forcefully on the shoulder
And I shirked at her disapproving frown
It's only now as I become a lot older
That I realise I was behaving like a clown
The priest in all his glory spoke high from the holy table
And I yawned as my father gave me a look
Whispering to my mother ‘the boys unstable’
His bony fingers took away the heavy book
The old lady started playing the tune
So we all stood to sing a hymn
Hoping the droning would finish soon
I thought should I sing but the chances were slim
The old lady with a wrinkly grin
Waved the collection tin in my face
Mother passed some coins that I dropped in
And then we left the cold hallowed place

The wind gives chase to my wandering soul
As I walk along the gaping cliff edge
Lights from neighbouring kingdoms
Bring me perilously close to the ledge

Reminding me of home
Alone and afraid of the world
I'm nomadic and forced to roam
When will I settle
Can I begin to ever live again
God please **** out my darkness
Turn me away from a creeping insane
Shoeless on the wet grass

Scraping around like a wounded pup

Praying to god seems futile
I say goodnight now to the hypnotic sky

Myself and a friend believe we saw him
Stood between the factory walls
We only noticed he had a transparent body
After he refused to answer our calls
He just lifted his arm and pointed
And it chilled us to the bones
That night is etched in my memory
When us and him crossed through timezones
The children painted a mural
On a building next to the bowling green
He was pointing like he did to us two
Its the most chilling thing I've ever seen

Don’t open the door Mary
Don’t open the door Mary
Look after those children upstairs
When they cry your name in the night
Cause they will
As you know better than anyone

Don’t open the door Mary
When the man calls out your name
All gentle and soothing
Like a preacher at the altar
But it’s not him

Don’t open the door Mary
Cause hes not the man you knew
Resist the curiosity wriggling inside you
Ignore him calling outside
As he brandishes his knife

Don’t open the door Mary
To the familiar voice you hear
Things have changed inside him
A strangeness has taken over
Now a darkness waits at your door

Don’t open the door Mary
Just sit and wait in your chair
Eat the beautiful chicken resting on the plate
Drink the wine velvet in its glass
And dream on this beautiful evening

Don’t open the door Mary
As he’s banging on the door
Cry into the night if you need to
And let god listen to your head
Let him save your soul tonight

Long windy roads hold so much charm
Beaches of gold where the sea is calm
Underground bunkers the memory of war
To stay alive is what they're for
Farms and fields house cows and sheep
Tiny little lambs like to hop and leap
A castle atop a hill and a castle in the sea
Astound the tourists who wander round the quay
Portuguese ice cream sellers offer their delights
Children on the beach happily fly their kites
Beach shops and cafes hide in the town
Serving the locals who smile then frown
Trawlers bring oysters, lobster and shrimp
The old weary sailor collects them with a limp
Sea shells and ***** litter the shore
Abandoned and alone when the waters no more
A bright burning sun hovers in the sky
Warming the seagulls that glide and fly
The B and B's serve scampi and afternoon tea
In this mystical Eden that's just where ill be

School
Kids huddle in the corridors
In the staff room they hide in shells
The teachers who don't like children
Preferring stale sweat and coffee smells
In the classrooms they run riot
With rulers books and pens
Everybody's a target for trouble
Particularly the kids without friends
There's always a classroom bully
No brains and the charisma of a slug
But the girls just love a Neanderthal
Who's nothing more than a ****
Then ofcourse there's the crackpot joker
Protected by madness and dry wit
Always avoiding the troubles
He's the candle that always stays lit
A posse of the beautiful ladies
Flaunt around the painted halls
Lipstick perfume and mothers mascara
While the hair flows like Niagra Falls
And finally the come the sportsmen
Who tower over the rest
They take physical activity so seriously
Cause they just want to be the best
A mention for the headmasters favourites
Who sit secretly in the armchair at home
Parents believe they're learning academics
But they watch This Morning and go for a roam
It makes you or it breaks you
The job that makes you cool or a fool
Nowhere to run in education
The nature of the beast that we call school

In the dark of the visual glare
You slowly squeezed my hand
As the images flickered on celluloid
My resistance ebbs like sand

The path of life
Through bloodshed came the answer
Through despair came the pain
Through conscience came absolution
A wanderer in the rain

Talk came very cheaply
Talk opened many doors
Talk picked me up and changed me
As a confidence flowed through my pores

Feelings crossed the boundaries
Feelings played with my heart
Feelings awoke my boarded up soul
And gave me a promising start

Love conquered my enemies
Love made me open up inside
Love was the leader I just followed
But now I'm thankful for the ride

Freedom
I want to be a dolphin
Swimming in the clear blue seas
Escaping from a robust angry world
Before it brings me to my knees
Gliding through the fishes
And twirling in the reeds
Bouncing on the sponge of a jellyfish
Riding a wave until it recedes
The seagulls will call my name
Seahorses will wave hello
A million miles from my life
Amongst the aquatic flow
The salt will sting my mouth
But that won't bother me
I'll laugh at all my problems
Cause I'm finally going to be free
