i hope to see you
well and smiling

we've lived past hurricanes
and now the sun's here

maybe not for pleasant noons
but at least we have sunsets

and sunrises in cold mornings
where we'll finally wake up

proper
for breakfasts

and proper days
with hopeful highs

but for now
the last of bandages

of pills
and rue

and old latin phrases
spoken in mantra

say it with me
meliora, meliora, meliora

When you are looking

For love in the wrong places

You will think of me

The diffused gleam of jaded dreams
like a siren call upon our desires deep
to sink again in their harrowed streams.

We walk on towards better things
trailing the hummingbird of hope.
Onward, intrepid on rainbow wings.

We live to die another day and begin
with a fated end. Till then we spend
our hours fueling the fire held within.

Why settle for being the fallen fruit
when we can sprout, lush and green?
Again, we will grow; we will take root.

The sympathetic villain is passionate; even they feel pain.

Not evil, perhaps something lower?
An abyss of a person—a counterfeit soul.

Calling to memory the despair of a black hole.

You destroy, you rot, you steal the light.
You feel nothing and let nothing in.

And you infect me, too, when I know I must share my existence with you.
